Festivities may look a little different this year, but there is one definite way to inject a little bit of joy into your life – by adding some colour into your wardrobe.

However, if you’ve spent years putting on all-black ensembles, it can be hard to break out into the colour zone. This is where your House of Colour consultant comes in. If you ‘ve already had your colour consultation, you’ll know what colours make you shine and look radiant. If not, don’t fear. This festive season reach for true red – not only is it perfect for this time of year but it also suits every complexion.

There is no doubt that 2020 has been a year like no other. For many it has been a year of challenges, restrictions and more time spent at home. But despite all this we have still managed to come together, albeit virtually. As Christmas fast approaches we all face the challenge of “what do we wear for Christmas this year?’ Parties and celebrations are set to be hosted virtually rather than in real life but there is an undeniable desire for dressing up is still present. We’re here to help you with the art of dressing up even if you’re just going to the kitchen again!

When it comes to virtual parties and even Christmas day people tend to swing between dressed up or dressed down. This will probably depend on your clothing personality and what you feel most ‘you’ in. Whether it’s a sequin jumper and jeans, a velvet jumpsuit or an all out there party dress, don’t forget to add some colour to your look and add a swipe of lipstick.

  • A glowing base.
    • For healthy looking cheeks add blusher in an upwards motion. Add some illuminator for a ‘sun kissed in winter’ glow.
  • An easy eye
    • The smoky eye is always a favourite. Our eyeshadow compacts have been created to enable you to make your perfect smoky eye. Your consultant will be able to talk you through how to apply this in a virtual make-up class. Use our eyeliner and smudge along the root of the upper lashes, thickening the outer corner for a more dramatic look. Finish off with mascara.
  • A chic lip
    • With face coverings the new norm lipstick application needs to be thought out. Prep your lips with balm and blot away the excess, line and fill in your lips with your chosen HOC lipliner – we have a selection that match our lipsticks! This will provide texture for your lipstick to cling to and prevent feathering. Follow with lipstick and push the colour gently on to your lips with our ring finger to fuse liner and lipstick together. For extra longevity blot with a tissue.
  • The festive mani + pedi
    • Introducing our own brand Nail Colour, designed exclusively to match the colours of your season. Long lasting and easy to apply with a flawless finish brush, it is a great way of adding some colour to your outfits this festive season.

We asked a couple of Consultants how they’ll be dressing up for Christmas – here is what they had to say:

Ellen Peters, Natural Romantic Spring (consultant for Thame)

Christmas is going to be all about comfortable glamour this year and I’m already planning a bright, rich blue and gold theme, after all, this year should be a bit different from the norm.

For my Christmas day outfit, I’m thinking velvet and luxurious ease. Probably a blue velvet Wishes top (one of my new ones by Dorset company From My Mother’s Garden) and some floaty silk navy trousers worn with my favourite curved gold leather and pearl blingy belt.

Gold Noe trainers with narrow velvet ribbon ties to replace the laces – no need for high heels in 2020!! If we end up going for Christmas dinner in front of the Zoom screen, I might even wear my gold slippers! None of the rest of my family will ever know!

Jewellery will be gold statement earrings, several long chains in gold and mixed blues with multiple bracelets/bangles, taking care that nothing is likely to get mixed up with the turkey and it’s trimmings!

I have gold sprinkled champagne flutes so will be using these to enjoy my Christmas bubbles. Cheers!

Sian Davis, Classic Ingenue Winter (consultant for Cheltenham, Gloucester and Tewkesbury)

As a Jewel Winter Classic Ingenue I was made for Christmas! The bright Christmas colours and sparkle are just perfect for me….I love dressing up!

Colour wise I get into ‘Christmas tree styling’ for the whole month of December wearing all my reds and greens rather than the pinks and blues of my palette. I even change my nail colour to red rather than my usual pink. So scarlet, carmine, right through to burgundy. My emerald greens and pine worn with white, silver or my ice colours are my ‘Christmas colours’. If it is in a sparkly fabric even better!

My accessories add even more glitz, I love a bright silver. I have red ‘pearls’ (actually a dark red coral) and more than one Christmas tree brooch!
